Investigation on the compressive properties of auxetic foams under different loading rates

Auxetic materials or with a negative Poisson's ratio have great potential to be used in many industries because of their specific mechanical properties such as high stiffness and strength significant weight saving. In this article, the effect various parameters fabrication process on microstructure polyurethane auxetic foam was investigated. Moreover, compression behavior different situations, from quasi-static strain rate loading, studied comprehensively. Results indicated that 70% volume reduction, being heated 180°C kept at temperature for 1 h 45 min could maximize auxeticity foam. Microscopic images demonstrated structure cells were transformed honeycomb re-entrant, causing become negative. With increasing re-entrant cells, increased, which leads absorbed energy up 443%, loading 617%.
